Football fans are getting to see a different kind of football star this upcoming season. Everyone has heard of Tim Tebow after his record setting year. He scored over 50 touchdowns on the ground and in the air. Then went on to win the most prestigious award in college football as a sophomore. But the most amazing thing about Tebow is his integrity and the fact that he is such a great role model. He spent the summer going on Mission trips to preach the gospel to young people around the world. He just seems to be using football as a platform to try to do some of the good works that he is interested in. When asked if he wanted to be like Archie Griffin and win two Heisman trouphys. He said that would be fine but he would rather be like his idle Danny Waurfel who led Florida as quarterback years ago and then won only one Heisman but used his fame to spread the gospel and do good things for young people around the world.
Well Mississippi State has their on star on the horizon that has the Tebow kind of Character. Tyson Lee a young man from Columbus Ms has moved into a spot to help lead the Bulldogs to another season that may really excite the Bulldog family. MSU had its best record last season under the first black SEC coach Sylvester Croom. Tyson played Junior college ball last season at Itawamba Community college but not for the reason most eventual SEC stars play Community College ball. He had the grades all along. As a matter of fact I imagine knowing Tyson that he probably has a 4.0. The sad fact was that because of his size he was overlooked coming out of high school by the SEC schools. Even more he had to walk on at MSU last spring but it didn’t take Croom long to notice the kind of player Tyson is. He is now on a full scholarship and Sly was talking about Tyson being part of a two QB system at MSU. But knowing the character of this young man I am looking for more and more playing time. If there ever was a Sylvester Croom type of player Tyson Lee is him.
I for one would like to thank young men like Tyson and Tim for being the kind of people they are. Thanks for being the kind of role models our kids need.
