John Smoltz faced off with his old friend and team mate Greg Maddux. Smoltz ended up winning the battle 3-2 after Andruw Jones and Chipper Jones got 2 out hits in the 7th inning. Maddux lined a single up the middle for a single on the first pitch. Maddux cut up with first base coach Bobby Meachem and John never turned to acknowledge them. John Smoltz is the on pitcher for the famous rotation the Braves had in the 90’s Tom Glavin is pitches for the Mets. Avery has retired and Maddux left in 03 making stops with the Cubs and Dodgers before ending up with the Podres near his Las Vegas home. Between the two pitchers they have combined for 533 wins. Maddux with 335 and Smoltz won his 198th one Wednesday night. They were teammates in Atlanta for eleven years and this was their 1st matchup since July 7th 1992. Smoltz won that one 4-0 in a shutout in Chicago.
