In all honesty the season that they had was impressive in the reality that they wet to a far better season than a lot of including myself predicted they would do. The deal to sign Johnson was carried out in an effort to bring a strength to the spot of pitcher that has been lacking for the last couple of years. In relation to the outfield the Marlins are right where they have to be so that you can hit their makers and make another powerful run for the post season.

The addition of Johnson helps to cement the truth that they have a team that may be able to shut many teams down from the mound. Their strength is going to be that they’ve a solid outfield and now the bullpen is in a league of it’s own. There are going to be two difficulties that may impact as to whether or not or not the Marlins proceed by way of the post season and which are the Rockies or Phillies. These two teams are the only factor which will get into the way of keeping the Marlins from seeing October.

There has in no way been a superior time to be a Marlins fan than now, the Marlins are seeking to have the top season that they’ve had in a long time. They’re healthy, motivated also as focused on the task at hand and that’s to obtain to October and beyond that’s to put a Globe Title in their trophy case.

The Marlins are able to bring a style to the field that makes them look like a team that is focused for the very first time in several years to create a valid run at the World Series this may permit them to be a force to reckon with in the upcoming season. There are quite a few teams that can say that this year will be their year but only Florida are going to be able to back up their claims and make a actual championship run.

The outfield are going to be the only location place that the team will have any actual difficulties to contend with. You can find some holes in the outfield position that can take just a little work in the course of spring training to help to seal their holes up to make sure that that will not be the dent in their championship run.

Final word on the Marlins is that it’ll be yet another year of the team going to the limit and make a run that can be tough of several teams to contend with. This can give the Marlins a real shot at becoming a Globe Series contender.

After the retirement of Cito Gaston, John Farrell has taken over as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Farrell inherits a team full of good young pitchers and a lineup of hitters with explosive power. But as fans know, the American League Eastern Division is perhaps the toughest in baseball to win win because of the presence of perennial contenders New York, Boston and recently, Tampa Bay.

After he hit 20 home runs and 67 runs batted in while hitting just . 243, former first baseman Lyle Overbay signed a one year, $5 million deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Adam Lind takes over at first after hitting . 237 with 23 homers and 72 RBIs in 2010. That was some what of a disappointment following 2009 when Lind hit . 305 with 35 home runs, 114 RBIs and scored 93 runs. The team hopes he can rebound with a bit more pop while adding more base hits.

Jon Rauch comes to the Toronto bull pen after pitching for the Minnesota Twins last season. With Twins stopper Joe Nathan sidelined due to Tommy John surgery, Rauch served as closer until mid season when Minnesota traded for Matt Capps from the Nationals. The Blue Jays signed free agent Octavio Dotel who finished last year with the Rockies. He also pitched for Pittsburgh and Los Angeles last year and is a journeyman, having also pitched for the Astros, White Sox and Royals in his career. He is effective when healthy however and adds a veteran presence to the Jays relief corps.

Though they had to trade ace Roy Halladay a few years ago, the Blue Jays still have plenty of pitching. In fact, to make room in the rotation for potential Rookie of the Year Kyle Drabek, Toronto traded Shaun Marcum, who went 13-8 last season with a 3.64 earned run average in 195.1 innings.

The Jays got back second baseman Brett Lawrie from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Marcum. Lawrie is considered a top rookie prospect. But with the power bat of Aaron Hill established at second base, Lawrie, projected as a potential future all-star, may have to move to the outfield. But Hill is coming off a sub par season in 2010 and if he struggles again he could be pressed by Lawrie.

With the departure of Marcum, lefty Ricky Romero becomes the ace of the Toronto staff. Romero went 14-9 with a 3.73 era, 174 strikeouts in 210 innings last season. He is joined by fellow lefty Brett Cecil, 15-7, 4.22 era, 117 strikeouts in 172.2 innings last season. Brandon Morrow is a hard throwing right hander who could one day lead the league in strikeouts. He came over prior to last season in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Brandon League. Morrow finished 2010 strong, with a 10-7 record, a 4.49 era, with 178 strikeouts in 146.1 innings.

Toronto has three young players who appear ready to step up and contribute. Pitcher Kyle Drabek is a potential Rookie of the Year candidate and likely will slide into the young rotation behind Brett Cecil, Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow. Outfielder Travis Snider is coming off of an injury plagued 2010 season but is still just 23 and already has two years of major league experience. Many feel that he can become a top run producer. Second baseman Brett Lawrie came over in a trade with the Brewers. He is also a Rookie of the Year candidate and projects as a possible future all star, though he is currently blocked by Hill.

In addition to strong pitching and an improved bullpen, the Toronto Blue Jays feature one of the most powerful lineups in the American League. Leading the offense is third baseman Jose Bautista who had an unbelievable season in 2010, pounding out 54 home runs while driving in 124 with a . 260 average and a . 617 slugging percentage. The Jays are sure to score plenty of runs and with the potential contribution from Drabek, Toronto could contend with the Red Sox and Yankees in 2011.

In 1969, Major League Baseball expanded by adding four new teams. The Seattle Pilots and the Kansas City Royals joined the American League. The Pilots would later become the Milwaukee Brewers. To the National League went the Montreal Expos, who later became the Washington Nationals, and the San Diego Padres. For all of these teams, success would not be in sight. This is particularly true for San Diego.

The coming of the Padres filled the city with excitement. Fans were full of hope when it came to their new ball club. They had good reason to be. There was a brand new stadium, an experienced front office and a young team to look forward to. Their enthusiasm would turn out to be short lived. Frankly, the team was terrible. They came in last on their division for the first six years of play. In four of those last place finishes, they amassed 100 or more losses.

They did have a few glimmers of hope. First was a player named Nate Colbert. Colbert, playing first base, was indeed a power hitter with many accomplishments. One of his amazing feats took place over the course of a double header. He hit 5 homeruns in those two games. He and Stan Musial are the only two players to do this. In addition to the homeruns, he also tallied 13 runs batted in, a record that he holds alone.

The next glimmer was the new ownership of Ray Kroc. Kroc, owner of the world’s largest fast food chain, wanted to win. He took many steps to achieve this, including a PA announcement during a game. He spoke directly to Padre fans, introducing himself and promising team improvement. He also apologized for the team’s “stupid ball play.” His speech may have been less impactful than it might have been, had his audience not been distracted by a streaker running across the field.

Very slowly but surely the team began to improve. In 1978 the team hit the . 500 mark for the first time. They actually finished six games above five hundred. This was due in no small measure to players such as Dave Winfield, Rollie Fingers, and Gaylord Perry. However the team ended up losing both Winfield and Fingers to free agency.

San Diego did ultimately achieve baseball success by snagging the National League Pennant and reaching the World Series in 1984 and 1998. The Detroit Tigers were the 84 team’s opponent. Alas, the Padres were up against a baseball juggernaut in the Tigers. Earlier that year the Tigers had raced off to a 35-5 start and had never looked back. The Friars went down four games to one.

Second they had to face the New York Yankees. The 98 Yanks won 114 of their games and are ranked among the best teams in the history of baseball. The Yanks swept that series, but San Diego played their hearts out. Three of the games were exciting nail biting matches.

During the 2000s the Padres performance has been uneven. They did win the Western Division championship in 2005 and 2006. However the other years during the decade have proven to be disappointing.

While playing for the New York Yankees Louis Gehrig participated in 2,130 games, he had four hundred and ninety three home-runs and had thirteen continuous 100-RBI seasons, three hundred and forty was his average for his career and he was in six world series. He had a dream of reaching 2,500 continuous games before he ended his career, if he hadn’t been diagnosed with ALS he would probably have achieved that dream.

Henry Louis Gehrig also known as The Iron Horse lost his battle to ALS in 1941, 2 years after he said goodbye to all his fans at the Yankee Stadium. Louis Gehrig loved baseball and enjoyed every day and every minute that he played.

There is a lot of admiration for a person who enjoys their career and does it every day and ever single year which was shown by Carl Ripkin Jr. Ten years ago in 2002 when he broke the Iron Horses continuous game record which is now the most remembered moment in major league history.

First baseman Wally Pipp was replaced by the Iron Horse in 1925. He never missed a game unless ALS had him down. When he was a kid he would do his best not to miss class, he told someone once that he was ill one day and his mom asked him to stay home but as soon as she was out the door to work he left for school, she wind up having to go get him. Gary Cooper appeared in the movie “Pride of The Yankees” as Louis Gehrig.

Louis Gehrig was after Babe Ruth in the batting line up and his RBI numbers were always extremely high. On his first day with the team he didn’t bring his own bat so when the team manager led him to the batting cages he chose one from the fence line, the bat he chose was Babe Ruth’s bat (his favorite bat) amazingly he didn’t demand that he return the bat but instead said hi to him.

While he was growing up he liked to play baseball, football and do gymnastics. It is believe if he had not been over the draft age at the beginning of World War II he would have enlisted to be in the Navy. Louis Gehrig went to college on a football scholarship not baseball. In 1939 he was honored with being placed in Baseballs Hall of Fame. He is among the top ten best baseball players in the major league. Babe Ruth was the only person to get more home runs then the Iron Horse, he had forty seven home runs in the 1927 season. Gehrig has the American League record of 184 runs to this day.

The Iron Horse’s mother gave birth to him in the New York district in the year 1903 on the sixth of June. His weight was fourteen pounds. He was born to immigrants from Germany. As he grew he reached a height of six feet and the weight of 200 pounds. The first retired number in American professional sports was Jersey number 4 which belonged to him.

Louis Gehrig was an amazing asset to the New York Yankees before his death in 1939. His parents Christina and Heinrich Gehrig had four children of which he was the only survivor. One child passed before his birth and two passed after his birth.Bobbie Barton is a fitness trainer She likes SportsFanTreasures.com and recommends you check out their info on New York Mets Bedding, Minnesota Twins Bedding and Anaheim Angels Bedding

In Major League Baseball teams can qualify for the playoffs even if they do not win their division. Teams who accomplish this are called wildcards. One big disadvantage for a wildcard team is that they will never have homefield advantage in any of their league’s playoff series. The Florida Marlins have twice qualified for the playoffs in their history. Both times they were a wildcard, and both times they walked away with a World Series championship. With this as a background, let’s explore some Marlin history.

In 1993, MLB expanded. One of the new teams was the Colorado Rockies and the other was the Florida Marlins. The “Fish” play their games in Miami at Sun Life Stadium (which has actually had several names over the years including Dolphin Stadium.) In 2012, the tam will be playing in a new field, on the site formerly occupied by the Orange Bowl.

The first three seasons were dreadful for the club. In their debut year, they lost 98 games and came in dead last. But for the next three years, they would get progressively improved. Each year, they finished higher and higher in the standings. They inched to fifth, then fourth, then third. In 1996 they were just two games under . 500. This was cause for their fans to be hopeful about the future of their team.

The wait for fans was not very long. 1997 was a season only usually dreamt about. They came in second that year, only two games behind division winner, the Atlanta Braves. They entered the playoffs as the wildcard. First they swept the San Francisco Giants in round one. In round two they defeated the Braves in six games. Next up would be the Cleveland Indians for the championship.

The Marlin team entered the series as a big underdog. The Indians had just beaten the New York Yankees in impressive fashion. The series was a good one, going all seven games. In an eleven inning final game, the “Fish” took the prize. They tied the score in the 9th and won in the 11th.

Fast forwarding to 2003, again they finished second to the Braves, and again made the playoffs. And once again they knocked of the Giants in the first round. This NLCS saw them play the Chicago Cubs. It was to be one of baseball’s most memorable series. When it appeared the Marlins were going to lose the sixth game and the series, a Cub fan prevented a Cub fielder from catching the third out of the eighth inning. With new life the Marlins went on to win games six and seven to win the pennant.

If the Marlin team was the underdogs in 1997, they were given no chance to win the series in 2003. The New York Yankees were prohibitive favorites. After an emotionally charged comeback victory over their arch rivals the Red Sox to win the AL pennant, the Yankees came out flat. The young pitching talent of Florida took control, and the Series went to Florida 4-2.

Recently, the team has been coming in around the middle of the standings. This is in no small part due to the fact that they consistently have one of the lowest payrolls in the league.

Just as they did in the past when they signed first baseman Todd Helton to a long term contract, the Colorado Rockies have locked up outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and short stop Troy Tulowitzki. The team signed both to multi million dollar contract extension in the off season, ensuring that Rockies fans will get to see the cornerstones of the franchise for years to come.

At 37, Helton may be on the down side of his career. He still plays solid defense at first base, but his power is dwindling and his batting average slipped to . 256 last year. Helton has battled back problems in the past and may need to be spelled at first from time to time by Jason Giambi.

There are few players in baseball at the short stop position that can even come close to Tulowtzkis combination of batting average and power production. Tulowitzki hit . 322 in 2010, with 27 long balls and 95 runs knocked in. The young short stop had a scorching month of September last season when he hit for a . 322 average, raking 15 homers while also netting 40 RBIs. The finish to last season have fans wondering what 2011 could bring.

Carlos Gonzalez was drafted by the Arizona DiamondBacks and was labeled early on as a player with limitless potential. Arizona traded Gonzalez to the Athletics before he had a chance to establish himself in the big leagues. The Athletics did not give Gonzalez much of a look either and traded him to the Rockies for Matt Holliday.

In 2010, Gonzalez lived up to the promise that many saw in him. He hit . 336 with 34 home runs, 117 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases. A true five tool player, Gonzalez is just 25 and most players are said to hit their prime at age 27, so the numbers that Gonzalez could put up is staggering.

The team brought in Jose Lopez from the Seattle Mariners to play second base. Clint Barmes, who played second base for Colorado last year, signed with the Houston Astros to be their full time short stop. Ian Stewart will play third base. He has the potential to improve on his . 256, 18, 61 line from last year and is still just 25 years old.

The starting rotation is anchored by Ubaldo Jimenez who really came into his own last season at age 27. Jimenez threw 221.2 innings, going 19-8 with a 2.88 earned run average and 214 strike outs. Jimenez has averaged 15 wins, 194 strike outs and a 3.43 ERA over the past three years. In 2011, he is likely to again contend for the Cy Young Award.

Closer Huston Street anchors the bullpen, along with set up man Matt Lindstrom who was brought over from the Astros. Matt Belisle, Rafael Betancourt, and Felipe Paulino round out the bullpen hurlers, giving the Rockies a chance to hold on to leads late in games.Bobbie Barton is a fitness trainer She likes SportsFanTreasures.com and recommends you check out their info on Washington Nationals Watch, San Francisco Giants Watch and Atlanta Braves Bedding

After winning the World Series in 2005 and finishing second in 2010, the Chicago White Sox are set to build on their recent success. After finishing with a 88-74 record last season, General Manager Kenny Williams set out to improve his ball club in an attempt to close the gap on the Minnesota Twins who won the American League Central Division last year with a 94-68 record. But while the Twins lost some key players, particularly in their bullpen, the Sox made several key additions.

The batting order starts with center fielder and speedster Juan Pierre who scored 96 runs in 2010. White Sox fans hope that second baseman Gordon Beckham will improve on his first two years in the majors. The talent is certainly there for Beckham to improve on last years . 252 avg., 9 home runs, 49 RBI line. Right fielder Alex Rios had a solid year last season, hitting . 284 with 21 homeruns, 88 runs batted in and 34 stolen bases.

While the Twins feel they have bullpen replacements within their system, the White Sox think they improved their bullpen with the addition of Crain to go along with new closer Matt Thornton and impressive rookie for 2010 Chris Sale. Gone is former closer Bobby Jenks who signed with the Red Sox. Also gone is J. J. Putz who went to the DiamondBacks to be their new closer, and Scott Linebrink who went to the Braves.

Though again battling injuries last season, left fielder Carlos Quentin provided good power production with 26 home runs and 87 RBIs, though many feel he is capable of even more. Rounding out the bottom of the Sox order will be third basemen Mark Teahen, Dayan Viciedo, or Brent Morel. Viciedo provides more power, but Guillen likes Morels defense better at the hot corner. Teahen provides balance to the line up with his left handed bat.

Left hander Mark Buehrle consistently wins in a homer friendly home ballpark. John Danks joins Buehrle has a premier 200 innings eater, Gavin Floyd pitched a solid 194 innings as well. Last season, Edwin Jackson came over in a trade with the DiamondBacks and solidified the rotation, finishing with 209 innings pitched. If needed, Sale could step into the rotation as well, but for now he will serve in the important eighth inning set up role to Thornton.

Though Freddy Garcia left to go to the Yankees, the White Sox starting rotation figures to be solid and possibly spectacular. Mark Buerhle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd and Edwin Jackson throw plenty of solid innings and provide consistent wins. But it is the returning Jake Peavy that could put the rotation over the top. Though recovering from a severe arm injury, Peavy has looked good early in the spring of 2011 and he was once the ace of the San Diego Padres. If he returns to his all star form the Sox will have one of the best rotations in all of baseball.

The Sox lineup is good top to bottom, but it is the two sluggers in the middle of the south siders order that provide the true consistent thunder. First baseman Paul Konerko pounded out 39 home runs and drove in 111 runs last season. The White Sox signed free agent Adam Dunn away from the Nationals in the off season. Dunn is one of the more consistent power hitters in the game and the lefty swinging Dunn adds protection to Konerko and will DH.

The additions of Dunn and Crain have Chicago White Sox fans excited about the 2011 season. With the solid leadership of manager Ozzie Guillen and General Manager Kenny Williams signed to extensions, the pair lead a solid mixture of exciting youngsters along with proven veterans. Though they will likely battle Minnesota and the Detroit Tigers for the division, the Sox seem poised to make it an exciting summer in the Windy City.

Injuries hampered the Boston Red Sox in 2010 as fans were forced to watch in agony as division rivals Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees passed them. But with a key trade and several important free agent signings, Boston fans should be in for another enjoyable season in 2011.

Manager Terry Francona leads a team that was beset by injuries in 2010. Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Cameron, Josh Beckett, and Kevin Youkilis all missed significant time due to a myriad of injuries. They are all recovered though heading into 2011 and Francona also has new pieces that have been added to the puzzle as well.

Last years third baseman, Adrian Beltre, left as a free agent to sign with the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers. But Boston had traded prospects to the San Diego Padres to acquire slugger and perennial all star Adrian Gonzalez. With Youkilis able to move back to his original position at third base with Gonzalez now playing first, Beltre had become expendable.

Also injured in 2010 was center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who was limited to just 18 games and 78 at bats. In 2009, Ellsbury was an elite base stealer, swiping 70 bags and in 2008 he stole 50 bases. Ellsbury also hit . 301 with 8 homers and 60 RBIs in 2009 and he is still just 27 years old, so the power numbers could still increase. Going into the spring of 2011, it looked as if the rib injury that cost him all of last season was finally behind him.

Crawford comes over from the Rays and he adds another all star hitter to the Boston line up. He adds a blend of power and speed and could be a perfect third place hitter in the lineup following Ellsbury and Pedroia. Those three should be on base quite a bit for clean-up hitter Gonzalez to knock in.

In the bullpen, the Red Sox have added Dan Wheeler, Bobby Jenks, Denys Reyes, as well as several other left-handers vying for roster spots in spring training. Wheeler signed as a free agent from the Tampa Bay Rays and is a top middle reliever. Jenks is the former closer for the Chicago White Sox and Reyes was a key member of the St. Louis Cardinals for the last few years.

While the trade for Gonzalez and the signing of Crawford grabbed the headlines, and rightfully so, there were a few other key signings as well. The team signed reliever Dan Wheeler, formerly of the Rays. The defection of Wheeler and Crawford from the division rival Rays depletes that team while also helping the Red Sox. Wheeler has been a solid middle reliever, averaging 57 innings with a 3.13 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP in the past three seasons, meaning he does not walk many batters or give up too many hits while coming into tough situations in the late innings. Wheeler should give Boston solid innings, bridging the gap between the starters and closer Jonathan Papelbon.

With healthier years out of Pedroia, Ellsbury, Youkilis and Beckett, as well as improvements from Matsuzaka and Lackey, the Boston Red Sox should have plenty of fire power to out duel their rivals like the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays seem to be especially depleted having lost most of their bullpen via free agency and after losing Crawford as well as first baseman Carlos Pena. All of this should position the Sox for a long post season run, and most baseball insiders envision a Fall Classic that could feature the Red Sox versus the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philippines as we all know in our geography is an archipelago thus the Filipinos are scattered among its many islands. Although the Filipinos are living in one nation they are diversified in their beliefs and traditions according to the island and region where they belonged

From oral tradition Philippine folklore has been preserved and practiced by the Filipino natives. However a few of those traditional practices during weddings still survived and has been passed on to this new generation. The most universal of all is the “pamanhikan”, this is done before the wedding day it is the time where the hand of the bride will be asked by the groom accompanied by his parents; arrangement of the wedding follows. Another irrevocable wedding practice is the prevention of the bride to fit her wedding gown before her wedding day. Doing this would be invoking bad luck to her groom. Days before the wedding both groom and bride are not allowed to talk nor see each other until they are in the church for their wedding. They are not allowed to go anywhere and ride any vehicles as accidents will come their way causing one of them to die.

In order to break jinx, hexes or bad luck spells somebody has to break something while the wedding ceremony takes place. For a bride to become the voice of authority over the groom she must step on his toes while they are marching along the aisle to the altar and do similar thing when they are exchanging their vows. Wedding rings, candles and veils in anyway should not be dropped because in doing so bad luck will befall to the newly wed, candles on the other hand should not be allowed to melt faster than the other since it is known that if one melts faster it is a sign that the either the groom or the bride symbolized by that melted candle will have to die ahead. “Sukob” is another thing to be avoided. It is the event where a sister or brother of the bride will get married on the same year the bride got married. Black garments are not allowed when attending a wedding since it portends sorrow and mourning.

When the wedding is over the bride and groom are then meet with a shower of rice, salt and sugar confetti for them to have an abundant life. Before entering the reception hall they have to drink the bitter tonic which symbolizes the adversity and hardship of life. It is known to give them strength to face all of their trials as couple. During the opening of their gift the couple must make sure the first gift they have to open is an “arinola” to give them good luck.

These are just few of the common wedding custom and tradition practiced by Filipinos. If these practices really are effective only the couples know. However modern Filipinos now a day are trying to shun that practice, because they believe that only God knows the future and only our faith and trust in Him will ward away evil and misfortune.
