GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala ? The left back problem persists for the US.

Carlos Bocanegra isn’t the answer. Jonathan Bornstein ? fresh off a shocker against Paraguay ? can do no right in the eyes of the collected masses, even when he does (see: World Cup 2010). And Jonathan Spector, nope.

But down in Guatemala, the flank was solidified ? for a night, at least.

Greg Garza, Thomas Rongen’s embattled, frequently maligned, first-choice fullback, had himself a sublime performance against Suriname on Tuesday night during the U-20s’ opening match of the CONCACAF Championship.

HARRISON, N.J. ? MLS Commissioner Don Garber confirmed on Tuesday that the first-ever participation of MLS clubs in the World Football Challenge (WFC) this year will take the place of SuperLiga on the league?s summer calendar between July 14 and Aug. 6.

The primary reason for the shift from SuperLiga, a competition which pitted MLS clubs against their Mexican counterparts? The growth of the CONCACAF Champions League.

WASHIGNTON ? D.C. United rookie defender Chris Korb doesn?t like to lose. That much was clear even a few days after the 23-year-old made his professional debut in a 2-1 defeat at New England.

Starting at the right back for injured regular Jed Zayner, the Akron product looked comfortable in DC?s defense and was glad to get that first pro experience done and dusted.

?It was exciting to get that first game out of the way,? Korb told MLSsoccer.com. ?I wish we would have won. It?s never fun when you lose and I?m pretty competitive, so it wasn?t the best first game.?

MIXING THINGS UP

With last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to New England behind them, the Black-and-Red got back to work on Tuesday morning on the RFK Training Field. Head Coach Ben Olsen addressed his players upon arrival at RFK Stadium, encouraging them to keep training hard just as they have throughout 2011, and to bring renewed focus to this Sunday’s match in Colorado against the defending MLS Cup champions (7:00 p.m. ET, Galavision).
